The Wiko brand of handsets billed as Europe’s fastest growing smartphone is making inroads into Africa with the intention of unseating the likes of Samsung, Huawei and Tecno that are established names in the market. There’s a good measure of self-assurance that is evident with the Wiko line of handsets from the name to the decidedly prominent logo. Truth be told, without seeing a handset, the name would elicit giggles if for no other reason than that the name sounds much like the Swahili equivalent of a ladle or a Mwiko if you like.
