Since the introduction of mobile telephony in Kenya at a large scale in the early 2000s, there has been jubilation and lamentation around mobile handsets in nearly equal measure. Mobile phones offer the convenience of mobility and ease of communication where traditionally there was limitation to the speed and efficiency with which information could be relayed. Inversely the initial cost of owning a handset meant that only few people could enjoy the benefits of connectivity on the go. Worse still, losing a handset was a nightmare.
